Getting started

On the app home, click Turn on in theme editor. The theme editor opens App embeds with Free gift switched on; click Save. No theme code is changed.
Click Create gift rule: choose whether shoppers qualify by spending an amount or buying a number of items (from any product, specific products or collections), the amount, and the gift. Save. The app creates its checkout discount for you.
Optional: Add block to cart page adds the Gift progress block ("Add 1 more to get a free tote", with a progress bar and the gift picker button). It also works on product pages.
Add products to the cart on your store until the rule is met: the gift appears in the cart at no charge.

How gifts work

The gift is a normal product with a hidden line property. The app's automatic discount makes it free at checkout while the rule is met.
The gift is added only while it's in stock. Give a rule several gifts (up to 3 on Free, 10 on Pro): the first one in stock is added, or shoppers choose with the gift picker.
When the cart stops qualifying (for example, items are removed), the gift is taken out. Spend is measured before discounts.
If a shopper removes the gift, it isn't added back during that visit; the Gift progress block shows an "Add free gift" button.
The gift itself never counts towards the amount. Gift cards don't count either.
Amounts are in your store currency. Shoppers paying in another currency get the converted amount (Shopify's rate), and the progress messages show it in their currency.
Tiered gifts (Plus): the cart gets the gift of the highest level it reaches, and the lower level's gift is swapped out.

Buy X Get Y (Plus)

Shoppers add the items themselves. The discount appears in the cart and at checkout under the name you choose.
The cheapest qualifying items get the discount. "Times per order" limits how often the deal applies in one order (0 = no limit).
An item discounted by one rule isn't discounted again by another rule.

Discounts and other apps

The app runs one automatic discount called "Mint Labs Free Gift". Under Settings, choose whether it combines with order, shipping and other product discounts. If another product discount wins on the gift line, the gift isn't shown as free, and the app takes it out of the cart so nobody pays for it.
Don't delete the discount in Shopify. If you do, the app creates it again the next time you open the app or save a rule.

Themes

Tested with Horizon and Dawn, with the cart drawer and the cart page: after adding or removing a gift the app refreshes the theme's cart the same way Shopify's storefront tools do for other apps. Other themes get the cart count refreshed, and the cart page reloads.
Storefront texts follow your store's language for English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch and Portuguese; your rule texts show as you type them.

Plans

Free: 1 active gift rule: spend an amount, or buy products or collections; Gift added to the cart automatically, removed if the cart stops qualifying; Up to 3 gifts per rule as stand-ins, so a sold-out gift is never added; The gift is made free by a checkout discount that re-checks the rule; Gift progress block for cart and product pages; A small "Powered by Mint Labs Free Gift" line under the progress block.

Pro ($9.99 / month, 7-day free trial): Up to 25 active gift rules; Automatic gift or shopper gift picker; Up to 10 gifts per rule, up to 5 gifts per order; Start and end dates per rule; No "Powered by" line.

Plus ($17.99 / month, 7-day free trial): everything in Pro, plus Buy X Get Y (BOGO): free or a percentage off, checked at checkout; Tiered gifts: up to 5 spend or quantity levels per rule; Report per rule: carts that qualified, gifts added.

Plans are managed on Shopify's plan page (Plans → Choose a plan / Manage plan) and billed by Shopify. Changing plans never deletes anything: rules your plan can't run are paused and kept exactly as they are, and they run again after an upgrade.

Privacy
